Vitamin A

Vitamin A is a fat soluble vitamin that is essential to our daily living. It has many uses to the body including the development and maintenance of healthy hair, skin, and mucus membranes. Vitamin A also helps with the reproduction and repair of cells throughout the human body. By restoring new cells the body is able to better prevent diseases; much known to prevent cancerous cells. The USDA recommended amount of vitamin A taken by women is 700 RAE and men intake 900 RAE on a daily basis.

Vitamin A is commonly known to help with the following:

  • Eyesight - vitamin A is required in the reproduction of eyesight. It helps with the induction of light to the retina therefore good for night vision
  • Growth and Development - aids in the growth and development of the fetus or embryo
  • Reproduction - can sometimes be required for the reproductive function including sperm, placenta, and ovaries

There is no better way to obtain vitamin A than through that of good wholesome foods. Of course, when unable to consume the recommended amount daily through food, it is definitely a good idea to take vitamins or nutritional supplements in either pill or liquid form.

Some wholesome foods that vitamin A can be consumed through include, but are not limited to: sweet potatoes, carrots, boiled kale, mangos, raw spinach, turnip greens, papayas, red bell peppers, apricots, cantaloupe, milk, romaine, eggs, raw tomatoes, broccoli, green bell peppers, and oranges.
