Vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin that has a variety of uses to the human body.  It is an essential vitamin that the human body needs on a daily basis to function.  Along with normal functionality, vitamin C can do many other things as well; some of which include preventing or fighting heart disease, producing collagen, maintain a healthy level of blood pressure, decreasing the risk of cataracts, protect the body from harmful substances such as toxic minerals, normalize the white blood cell function, and reduce the risk of many diseases.  Because the human body relies so much on vitamin C, 1-5 grams per day should be consumed.

Vitamin C acts as an antioxidant to protect from oxidative damage such as LDL which is a commonly known heart disease.  It also protects from other types of heart disease by reducing the stiffness of arteries and platelets that tend to clump together.  It also improves the nitrate oxide activity and as an affect of that will regulate blood pressure levels.  Because it serves as an antioxidant it can also protect from free radicals, toxic minerals such as lead, and the harmful affects they bring. 

A natural antihistamine can be referred to as vitamin C.  It aids in the healing process of wounds that are in and outside of the body and can strengthen other organs.  It produces collagen which is a part of the body that strengthens muscles and blood vessels.  Body builders and those who are anxiously engaged in a daily exercise routine should consume a healthy amount of vitamin c.  It is vital for the proper healing of those muscles that are being strained while working out.

Studies have also been proven that vitamin C can reduce the risk of getting cataracts in the eye.  As the body ages the level of natural vitamin C decreases; therefore requiring that the body supplement from other sources.  With the consumption of vitamin C supplements, cataracts and many other eye dysfunctions or diseases can be ultimately reduced as the body deteriorates. 

Vitamin C is critical to the aging and healing process of the body.  The best source of vitamin C for the body is that from good wholesome foods, however, daily supplementation is recommended when the designated amount is inconsumable.  Foods that contain good sources of vitamin C are broccoli, red peppers, currants, Brussels sprouts, parsley, potatoes, citrus fruit, and strawberries.
